APPEARANCE Often mistaken as a child, Yumi is small in stature, with a sweet and welcoming demeanor. Her eyes are a beautiful amber color, that often mimics fire in bright light. She usually keeps her hair short, pulled back with a red ribbon she kept from her mother. PERSONALITY Yumi is an interesting individual, growing up completely sheltered she tends to be quiet reserved, and shy on a social level, something her appearance wouldn’t support. Yumi doesn't go out of her way to meet new people or to make friends, leaving her feeling oftentimes lonely. Though, she tries to combat this by pouring her life into her work, always picking up extra shifts, staying late to help solve the latest crime. It's almost the perfect distraction. She is silently determined by what she believes is right and wrong, making her something of a hard-headed person. She is rooted in her beliefs. However, even though she is awfully stubborn and reserved, she has a kind heart. She is soft on those she see’s struggling, always wanting the best for humanity. Needless to say, Yumi is rather sympathetic to others, and finds herself often involving herself in other peoples issues with the idea she is helping. She can be pushy when she feels someone isn’t being honest about something she feels would be better in the open, especially in her work environment. She feels for other people and could be considered gullible, give a sob story and she’ll believe it and feel bad for you. Yumi is something of an idealist. She has a vision of a peaceful world, where nobody has to worry about bad things happening, she wants an environment where parents don’t have to lock their kids inside out of fear of the violence lurking outside of their doors. To say the least, it’s part of why she makes a good cop (or maybe arguably a bad one). With that being said, she takes pride in her job, despite what she had to sacrifice for it. And defends her title and fellow officers fiercely, even when she knows they’re in the wrong. Yumi struggles with her moral compass, by wanting to always do the right thing. Sometimes she finds herself compromised by the actions of her fellow officers, but tells herself it’s the bigger picture that matters.
BACKGROUND Yumis’ life began on a cold January in the bustling city of Tokyo, Japan as her parents’ second child. Her family was fairly poor, earning money doing side jobs for sketchy businesses. Her and her older brother never questioned their jobs as the money put clothes on their backs and food on their tables. From a very young age Yumi was fiercely protected by her parents, they even went as far as homeschooling her until she graduated. With this came its burdens, as Yumi often felt lonely and excluded from life outside of their small house. Her brother was her only friend, but being five years older and free from their parents overprotective clutches, he had a life of his own and often rejected her companionship. She found comfort in the internet, having access on their family’s computer. She would often go down the rabbit hole of true crime and news. This would eventually lead her to the idea that she wanted to be a peace maker. However, this was an idea her parents would quickly shut down, it was “too dangerous” and they didn’t want anything to happen to their “little girl”. She held onto her parents rejection, and once she finished homeschooling she found an online ad for a roommate in the city of Keibetsu, she figured the only way she would ever be able to follow her dreaM was to leave her family behind. So, a few months after she turned eighteen she left, in the middle of the night, leaving nothing but a note telling them not to worry and that she would find her own way. She cut off all contact with her parents and brother and relocated. She got a part time job at a club, busting tables, just until she was able to afford to put herself through formal police training. During her time at the academy, the city began to fall apart. The gangs she had heard of in the city were getting out of control, every day it was something new, something violent. This did nothing but fuel her desire to bring peace. Despite the fact that she wasn’t taken as seriously in the academy for she was small and seemingly weak, she pushed herself and wound up at the top of her class. After three years she graduated the academy and landed a job with the city’s police department as an officer, where she now strives to keep people safe. |
