"Drugs, weapons, gangs, violence, corrupt politicians....it's the stuff that fuels a peaceful societies nightmares. We want our children, our families, our friends and our neighbors to be safe. But, the Yankan and Inago have been coming in hot, feuding over who will win, who will gain control of our once thriving city at the expense of innocent lives. The government officials are doing everything they can to stop them, but they can't all be trusted either, can they? Life has been turned upside by the greedy and malicious hands of the gangs, officers and politicians and our once safe city, is no longer that. It is time for us to start picking sides, or hiding, because this is only the beginning the decline..."

» The year was 2021, Eli had been in the city for almost over a year and while he had witnessed so much in such a short amount of time he found himself lacking social interactions outside of his work. Typically when he met someone, his brain would turn into journalist mode, almost always asking why, what, who or where. He rarely found himself bonding with anyone- something that was unfortunately starting to take a toll on him.
He found himself wandering the middle-class area of the city, somewhat close to the apartment he had gotten for himself when he moved. As he walked down the streets, he took the time to truly admire the beauty. Fall was approaching so quickly, and all the trees and bushes that lined the streets were starting to die- slowly but surely. They were dying in hues of orange and red, something he thought to be quiet pretty.
He looked up, as it was getting starting to get dark out the sun was beginning it's decent painting the sky in beautiful splotches of purple blue and orange. However, this would only cause him to bump into someone, as he did he instantly apologized to the guy, ”Ah, shit, I'm sorry! I wasn't really looking where I was going.”

» At this point Eli had every mind to get up and leave. The other was being awfully rude, something Eli should have been used to by now. As he leaned back, his eyes locked on the guy, he felt a bad vibe. And when he asked, Eli answered honestly and softly. ”Not really.”
Though when the strange antagonist continued, Eli found himself feeling downright annoyed. This guy absolutely could not be serious. ”Well, us normal people don't typically come to the library to chit-chat,” he said as he motioned slightly to the book he had been distracted from.
With this he leaned in, placing his elbows on the table, resting his chin in the palm of hi hands- his eyes yet to waver from the other across from him. ”If you don't like what these places are used for YOU can leave.” This comment came with a challenging tone, as if Eli were now matching the brunt strangers.

» Honestly, Eli was unsure if what the other was saying was the complete truth. However, Eli wasn't in the market to fight over something so trivial, especially when he felt like he had enough to get a decent blog post out of it.
Though it did strike him as odd that she only mentioned her mother, 'to be fair, I lost my father so maybe that's the case?' This thought was not enough for him to push further on the topic of the father. He gave an eager nod as she spoke.
Eli narrowed his eyes, ”Well, if that was the case, why did you say you didn't care earlier?” it was genuine question. If that was how she truly felt, she could have always started with that. 'Unless she is covering something up?' It was odd for him to believe such things about someone so young, but it made sense in his head.
The city had been plagued with crime, the gangs were pushing drugs and violence onto the streets- it was a raging topic that everyone had an opinion on right off the bat...except for Reiko. His sighed, as he jotted a few things down. ”Is there anything else you would like to add?” he questioned, trying to determine if she would say anything else.
» As he became engulfed in the book he didn't notice the strange pierced up guy walk up. In fact, it wasn't until the guy slammed his drink on the table the he had caught Eli's attention. He peered up at the guy as he made himself at home right across from him.
'Really? This place is dead and you choose to sit here?' Eli tried his best to keep himself from sighing uncomfortably. Obviously he chose to attempt to ignore the other individual and focus on the book in front of him. That was why he had come to the library after all.
However, while trying his best to make it through the page, the other spoke. 'Did this guy just call me princess?' His eyes narrowed back at the guy, his lips turned down into an apparent frown. ”Just a true crime novel, now can I help you with something?” against his better judgment, Eli asked, wondering why in the hell this guy confronted him. Eli leaned back as the other had, staring at him while he awaited a response.
Surely, this guy didn't show up just to pester people right? 'He looks like the type...' Eli thought taking note of the strangers rather unusual style and appearance. He surely looked like someone with a story to tell, 'or a poser.' But that wasn't why Eli was here, and he wasn't going to make it so.
» Eli had a gut feeling that there was something up with Reiko, but she remained consistent in her responses. A typical person would respond with an apology or something to diffuse the situation, but Eli was stubborn and persistent and once he felt like he might be onto something, he would do anything to figure it out entirely. He pushed out a sigh as the young girl turned to him, clearly upset.
”Listen, Reiko....I've been around here for a while, trying to uncover the injustices going on in this city,” he said admittedly, ”and I hate to say it but it's rather suspicious when a member of the communities youth has no opinion on the matter.” Eli had hopes that by being open about why he reacted the way he did, she would disarm herself a little more.
”I can't say in the past I haven't thrown people under the bus....” He added in almost a whisper, ”but my gut is rarely wrong about these thing.” He narrowed his eyes as he looked down at the small girl, he tried to refrain from sounding accusatory but it was his truth, his reality. Eli wasn't the type to stir up family drama just because, however if that family were in on some dirty business Eli couldn't promise the outcome would remain the same.
He took a moment to jot down some notes in his book before clearing his throat, ”Do you know how your family feels about what's going on? Or is it pretty much same across the board with not caring?” he asked, his eyes meeting her blue ones. Surely, this would either get somewhere or she would leave? Either way, Eli had no intentions of backing down on what he had said.
» Sometimes all a hard-working street journalist needed was a break- that's why Eli found himself held up in the library on a lovely Sunday afternoon, a cup of coffee a true crime novel in hand. He sat silently and alone, flipping page after page soaking in all the carnage. Today was his day to relax- no stories, no truth-seeking, just caffeine and books.
He would occasionally stop and take a sip, eyeing the rest of the library. It was fairly empty 'probably because it's so early....it's not even noon yet' he thought, not that he was looking to see or interact with anyone...but, he always kept his eyes open in case something news-worthy came up. It was something of a reflex of his- to watch people. But, there were times it got him into trouble.
He sighed at the reminiscent thoughts of chaos caused by his story-chasing, his eyes lowering back to the words on the pages. Sometimes, he got bored of all the bad shit in the world- though he would never vocally admit it. For once Eli wanted something boring, something mundane and simple. Eli always chased complexity and depth but it was tiring to say the least.
» Reikos responses just kept getting more and more interesting. 'So, maybe if she's got so many issues at home that could mean her family might be doing some or be involved in some messed up shit? He narrowed his eyes, watching as the smaller person began to walk past him. Was this an intimidation tactic? 'She knows something, I am absolutely sure of it.' He gave a smirk.
She might have been young, but Eli could feel the tension. Without turning to face her he spoke, ”So, things must be pretty messed up with your family then?” His wording was meant to illicit a response. He scoffed slightly, he was ballsy, that's for sure- attacking a teenagers family on the street just for the sake of content. Granted he had just enough to get an interest post out- doing so would be rather accusatory of this girl and her family, but he had a gut feeling something was up with her.
”If you don't want to tell me more- that's fine. But I'm known to fill in the gaps,” he spoke with a challenging tone. Hinting at his motives to push her tragic story to the public. It would be hard to tell who she was, how many pink haired blue eyed girls in Keibetsu had the name Reiko....if Eli had to guess, not many. He smirked, displaying this rather pariah-like thought.
» In his line of work, people always had an opinion, and when they didn't it was usually because they were part of the problem. So when the pink haired shorty in front him said she didn't care, it sparked something in the journalists body. He raised an eyebrow at the odd response, ”So, you don't care about these issues, or you don't care about finding solutions?” Either way the other would stand out and not in a positive light, she was suspicious.
He didn't feel great about assuming such a young person could have any involvement, but what about her family?
He cleared his throat, adjusting his stance, waiting to take notes on what she had to say next. Though he couldn't keep his mind from wandering, 'what if she is a gang member? If she were a commoner or politician she would have more to say , right? Unless she's just that primitive?' He had so many questions, he was just itching to get answers to.
”I just need a little elaboration if you don't mind,” Eli said reassuringly, ”you're voice matters too, no matter what your voice may be.” He added, in hopes of potentially easing the other into giving more information.
» When the other released her name it felt like a victory to Eli. He smirked, ”Well Reiko, I appreciate you taking the time to talk to me, I’ll try to get straight to the point.” He began, taking a moment to ready his pencil. Part of him was nervous, he was still new to the city and he knew everyone had their own opinions. He didn’t want to step on anyone’s toes and create issues, but their voices deserved to be heard and the truth deserved to come out. The voice of the people mattered.
”I would like to know your feelings on the cities raising crime rates,” Eli’s looked at Reiko, giving a valiant grin, ”Do you think your government could be doing more, or are there any solutions you believe could help?” His own opinion was that, unfortunately, there was a natural order to things. Gangs were going to exist; trying to fight violence with violence would only cause more casualties and issues. He wasn’t sure if there was a good or right way to drive them out but he did know spilling blood over it wasn’t going to make it easier.
But this wasn’t about his own thoughts, it was about Reikos and he was excited to get her take on such disastrous ongoing issues. It didn’t cross his mind though, that she could be on any one side. He had to try to tread lightly, though he wasn’t really known for that.
» Eli came to the city to find answers, and his line of work was not only meaningful to him but personal as well. His parents took the title as hard-hitting journalists, they had their own business that fell due to the loss of his father but that did nothing but push Eli to try harder, to dig deeper. He knew the kind of territory he was in, even though he hadn’t been there long. He knew it was a risk. But it was a risk worth taking.
He was excited to get the ball rolling when the young girl actually responded, ”Great, well I’m Eli, I’m working on an insider piece if you will, and was trying to get opinions from the public, what’s your name?” He started, his eagerness shined through, one could tell he was determined to get these conversations.
Eli flipped to a fresh page in his note book, writing the date at the top of the paper. It was clear he was ready to take notes.
» It was nearing the end of summer in 2020, it had only been a few years since Eli uprooted his life and began his own independent journalist blog, and his search for an incredible story in the city of Keibetsu. He had heard of the cities theoretical collapse at the hands of two rival gangs, and the government had so-far minimal contact with doing anything about it though they want people to feel safe. But was that how they actually felt? He felt determined to figure out what was going on, why it was happening and who was doing it.
Which was why twenty-year old Eli found himself canvassing the streets, his notebook in hand. His sources had lead him to the cities projects, rumored to be heavily influenced by the Yankan. It was a beautiful day out and Eli found the best way to get someones opinion on something, was to ask them outright. It also made him feel more connected to a community that was new to him, and while he risked being called out or targeted for asking questions, he like like it was his destiny to uncover the truth: whatever it may be.
As he approached random people on the streets he asked questions like ”How has the influence of the Yankan and Inago effected you over the past few years?” or ”Do you have any concerns surrounding the governments involvement in the ongowing battle between the gangs?” His questions while simple, harvested a lot of deep emotions from the public. Perfect for what was going to be his first human interest article since having moved.
With his notes in hand he found his next interview opportunity, approaching the younger female, presumably a teen perhaps? The youth are more at risk because of this... he thought to himself. Walking up to the smaller human he cleared his throat and asked with sheer determination, ”Hey miss, do you have a moment? I'd like to get your opinion on some things.”

To say the least, Eli is built well for his height, muscles gained mostly out of necessity for keeping his head above the water. He has dark brown hair that lays somewhat messy and falls to the base of his neck, a few strands of his bangs falling even lower in the front. Framing a thin and steeled face. His eyes thst are normally hazel, predominately bright brown or red color in dark lighting- are as hardened and cold as his expression, stand somewhat hidden behind his bangs. However, even his steeled demeanor can't hide his foxy streak - the boy unable but to get himself into problematic situations.
His choice of dress is just as unique as the hair that covers his head. Atop his head he typically wears goggles, and depending on the weather a colored toboggan. His shirts are typically blue, pink or red in color. His shirts, which tend to be tight, runs down past his waist, falling in styled tatters around his thighs, occasionally which he'll wear white studded belts, crisscrossing over his hips resting atop of the shirt. Usually, from the left side, a single strap with a buckle at the end hangs to just above his knee. Either A blue or red Jacket is worn atop of this. He is hardly ever seen without wearing tight black gloves, black or gray for the most part.
PERSONALITY
INQUISITIVE- Eli is a detective by nature. Always questioning why, who, what, where and when. He always believes there is a story to be told and that there is always an underlying motive. He lives to find and bring the truth to the surface and will do so by any means necessary.
DAUNTLESS- Fear is not something Eli understands, he tries to live without it. He is headstrong and has no issues diving head first into unknown and potentially dangerous situations. He is fueled by determination, especially when there is opportunity to discover something more from it. He is fully aware his bravery is a double edged sword though, having gotten him into trouble more times than once.
ATTENTIVE- From a young age Eli has mastered his watchful eye, noticing things most others might not. He thrives off of knowing what is happening in the world around him, making his job as a journalist the perfect fit for him. Eli can almost read people, noticing when they get nervous or upset before others might. That bag that guy passed to the other guy under the table? Yeah, he noticed.
COMPASSIONATE- The hardest part of being a journalist, is wanting to help the people you watch get hurt. Eli feels deeply for other people and the troubles they go through. He tries not to show it, but underneath his icy semi-icy layers is a warm heart, that just wants to make things better. He finds himself often morally compromised as he digs to figure out the world around him without dragging anyone down.
CUMMING- Over the years Eli has developed a sense of slyness, often finding himself sneaking around to find or "acquire" information. Though usually with good intentions, Eli can come off as somewhat deceitful and manipulative in order to gain access to what he needs (usually involving getting the truth and a story).
Eli was born and raised in America, New York City, to be exact. His parents were pretty traditional, they had one child, and owned their own newspaper company. His life revolved around his parents and their business, as soon as he was old enough to walk, read, write and speak they put him to work. He spent long nights after school helping them print their papers, they worked closely with a few elite journalists who soon quit on them, for reasons young Eli wouldn't learn until he was 18.
His senior year of high school became a pivotal moment in his life, his father had been doing his own investigations, acting as his own journalist, because the ones who had worked for him previously felt the conditions weren't safe and that the stories weren't worth the risk. He was working on uncovering a story about a notorious gang in the city and their grasp on the community when he was shot and killed. His mother was devastated and wound up selling their company and moving with Eli to a small town in Wisconsin. Eli, finished high school despite the tragic event. His mother put him through college, where he picked up the family tradition. He studied journalism, in an attempt to still feel close to his roots.
He graduated at the age of twenty-one and gained an internship through a popular news company. While working on mundane political justice stories he caught wind of the "most dangerous city". A city being ripped apart from the inside out by rival gangs, stories of politicians being bribed to look the other way, innocent people being killed for seeing or hearing too much. He had to find out what was happening and why. He felt a need to find out and to let the world know. With his mothers support he uprooted his life, and found himself in the infested city of Kiebetsu.
For two years, he's been threatened by the yankan and inago, intimidated by police, and even heckled by fellow news journalists. But despite that Eli has gained a name for himself, as he's been privately publishing news online and as a whistleblower to local news companies on the citie officials and gangs wrongdoings.
